  6. I had a will done almost 20 years ago, but it's probably time to update not only the will but the other key documents like living will and POA. I think the state rules for some of them changed in the last few years. I had started trying to clear things out little by little, but during all the current goings on, I'm hesitant to throw out too much stuff. But I've worked on cleaning out three different residences and I can say with certainty your heirs will appreciate any advance work you do to clean stuff out. I also recommend that if there is something you really want an heir to have, it's nice to give it to them before you pass rather than wait for them to inherit. There was a special pin of my mother's that I always liked because of its history and how much it meant to my Dad when he purchased it. She gave it to me before she passed saying "I'd rather give it with a warm hand". and it means even more to me knowing that she wanted me to have it.

  10. So..when I got back from Nebraska..work via the Board of directors had put some practices in place and pretty much cancelled ALL group activities..what few thing were left..pretty much have been cut off since then...ANYWAY...first thing I did was contact our direct TV provider to figure out how to get our regular exercise and Tai Chi videos into the apartments..we did..no sound..but they can follow the videos pretty well. Then I started wracking my brain to come up with someone healthy and able enough to maybe play piano in our atrium...I asked Richard who does music at several churches..at first he said no..but then he called me back and said he would do it!! He is not into performing and hey it isnt his usual style of music..we postponed doing it last week due to my allergies..but today he played for close to 40 minutes..Gershwin and some movie tunes from the 50's or 60's..and he closed with God Bless America and encouraged folks to sing along. The residents were GREAT...maintained social distancing...anywhere from 5 to maybe 15 or 20 folks on each floor..they clapped after each song..and I think it lifted peoples spirits.....Richard and I spoke a couple days ago..as long as folks maintain the safe distance...he will make this a Friday 2pm gig I have also requested a few CD's and will try to play 1 or 2 a day..just to break up the emptiness of our atrium..I played a jazz one this morning...will do it again Monday!

  12. That sounds like a tough situation. When my Mom gets really mad, she calls me Missy. Like, "Listen here, Missy, you can't tell me what to do." When I get called Missy, I know I better back off.

  13. Does my neighbor count? He says he had it in November. An early adopter. This was even before he heard the report on the police scanner about the train pulling tanker cars that had "COVID-19" stenciled on the side. But I probably won't catch it, he saw a bunch of C130s flying over with their cargo doors open spraying disinfectant. Yeah, just some of the things he tells me. No, this isn't the neighbor flying all the Trump/Pence flags.

  16. The early adopters (and over-users) of new catch phrases are usually just trying to sound smarter than they really are. I had a boss once who would make up new terms just to screw with people. The brown-nosers would all start using the new stuff in everything they did and sounded like idiots. I caught on early and I never got caught up in the joke. He saw that figured out what he was doing, so he started telling me what he would use next so I could throw it out there in casual conversation Like I was in-the-know before everyone else. It drove a couple of them crazy!

  20. I saw my first orioles today. I think I saw some the other day but when they fly past so quick it’s hard to tell. I got out my feeder when I saw him, I’ll be able to get a better look at them when they are on the feeder. Last year’s picture

  21. All four were 100% awesome. My paternal grandfather gave me a BB gun to shoot the squirrels that were raiding his bird feeder. He was a man of few words. Handed me the gun and said "if you see a squirrel, shoot it." My paternal grandmother made the best damn dumplings and nadivka ever. My maternal grandmother was sweet and strong and an amazing cook. She lost a finger in a farm accident and was back to work the next day. My parents took her to Italy to meet her cousins. Best trip ever. My maternal Grandfather was a hoot. He had nine kids and every one of them wrecked one of his cars. He bought two of everything because he knew one of his kids would take one and he could keep the second. I once stayed up until 4 am shooting craps in a baking dish with him. I was drunk and he might have taken me for all my cash that night.

  22. My mom was an only child so my brother and I were the grandkids and didn’t have to share grandma and grandpa with cousins. Unfortunately my grandma died of cancer when I was quite young. My grandpa lived a few more years and got to take the Queen Mary cruise ship back to England to visit any relatives he still had there. He immigrated when he was a young man and had never had a chance to return. I liked riding in grampa’s car with him. It smelled of cigar smoke but to me it just smelled like grandpa’s car. He and another man from his lodge came up with the idea of dressing up like Santa and visiting every house with kids on Christmas Eve if the parents left the porch light on. The parents would sometimes leave a note on the front door to clue Santa in to the children’s names and possibly what they were getting for Christmas. That tradition still goes on to this day after 70 years. I have a magazine that did a story about the town where Santa visits every house and it has photos of my grandpa. My dads father was living with my aunt and uncle on their farm by the time I came along. My dad had five brothers and one sister so there were lots of grandkids. Grandpa Fleet was a cool guy but we didn’t have that special connection like we had with my other grandpa because he had twenty grandkids. When we went to visit my brother and I spent most of our time with the cousins. Grandpa Fleet’s first wife died after their first son was born, grandpa remarried and they had the rest of the kids. She passed away before I was born so I only know her from my dad’s stories.

  23. This is my maternal grandmother. When I got my first SLR camera in 1969, this slide was on either the first or second roll I shot. At the time she was living 150 miles away and was visiting, so the photo op had to be right during the visit. Would be difficult to re-take.

  25. Best, the dinners with a pile of ducks that my grandmother made. Learning how to butcher game. Familiarity with weapons. Her frugality. Worst, cigarette smoke from Grandpa and brutal beatings from Grandmother. She was not of sound mind and had anger issues. Ban combo. I grew up in that home, until I finally left as a teen.

  26. These things are great !! Put one on the front door, it see's the front walk and the driveway, tells us when a car pulls in or somebody walks up to the porch. The image is pretty decent, I can recognize people. Install was pretty easy, took a couple hours at most.

  27. Whats different? For me...., I miss my bike ride in every day to and from work. I had intially said I woukd go for a ride everyday and come back for work, but truthfully I just sleep later and walk downstairs I dont laugh as much. I kind of realized I have fun working with the crew I work with I am drinking more coffee but eating less treats in a day I now break for lunch at 1 instead of 12 so I can catch some 'Jerry Springer' while eating I am getting as much work done as before.., just faster as there are less interruptions

  28. I realize it is a delicate subject especially in times like now. You should consider an opportunity. Just so you know, I'm in the market for a few things: Smart TV, not too big, with Chromecast built in. A Dyson cordless vacuum, preferably with the factory accessory pack. A nice zero turn riding mower in good condition. A small plot of land in a scenic area. (Not Colorado. Taxes are too high.) Near a lake or river would be okay. Cash and/or securities. (No airlines. Thanks.) A Winnebago, fully equipped, with burgundy interior. Peace on earth and good will torward men.

  30. For me, since I accepted the position I’m currently in, not much really. I’ve been alternately working from home and the office for months. But the problem is that doing this, it’s like so never get away from work. Some nights I’m up here in my office at 10:00, some times at 3:00 am. But that is taking its toll. So, I’m attempting to make clean breaks daily now.

  31. The only way I remember what day it is. Is when Wo46 leaves for work. If she's hanging around the house for a few days and then heads off the work it must be Monday. And one Wednesday she reminds me to take out the gagarbage. And when she comes home with bags of groceries it's Friday.

  33. The home office is in the basement and I'm probably climbing that flight of stairs 10-12 times a day. On my way to get something to eat or go to the bathroom, I prefer talking to my wife and kids compared to many at the office. "More coffee, fewer treats" here too. I've actually lost about 5 pounds in the last month. I'm working on something that's not exactly in my wheelhouse, and need a bit of input. All the phone calls and Skype meetings seem much less efficient than sitting down to discuss in someone's office. In general I find myself feeling the same kind of general anxiety, all the time, that I felt before I left my last job... but this isn't job related.

  38. I wonder the effectiveness of distance learning for Jr High & High School kids, especially the lower grades. I’m sure some will take to it but my guess is the kids who just go through the motions are not engaging in it. I don’t think my son would have... I heard this 2nd hand from a non educator who works for a school district but she said the online curriculum was more about keeping educators on payroll than educating kids.

  42. My maternal grandparents were like Ozzie and Harriet. We kids would usually spend two weeks at their house in the summer, and we loved it. My paternal grandpop died right before I was born, and my paternal grandmother took care of herself in a time when that was snot easy for wimmin. She only lived aboot 5 miles away from the other grandparents so we split our time between them. It was a great experience for us kids. And I would imagine for the grandparents too.

  45. I get excited when I spot an Oriole. I don't think they are rare but I am pretty new at this bird spotting game and haven't seen many. They definitely don't winter here. Blue birds are the really neat ones. They don't come out when the weather sucks. We were getting them at our feeder, the weather took a turn and they disappeared, today it started to get nice and one showed up. Blue bird day is indeed a nice day.
