  1. The birds we have and the birds 🦅 traveling over is so fun. We have quail all the time. There was about 50 of them in front of my house on one of our first nights at the place. In addition to having the resident quail, there is a regular flyaway. They fly from the river over Moore mountain and on towards the link river. Gosh, I love being here. It is gorgeous here and I am so incredibly 🥲 thankful.

  2. So my 3rd ever seaplane ride was better than lst 2 in past 20 yrs. because it was longer and saw lots more. It was just under 1 hr. with a stopover at Saltspring Island after visiting friends on Vancouver Island...before we got to downtown Vancouver. I said to a staff member by the steps: I bet some women are dumb enough to wear high heels to get on..and off. Yea for Wilbur and Zephyr these rides are old hat.

  4. I saw a documentary about migratory patterns of birds. It sounds like it might apply to your new place:

  5. Old hat but still fun. There is no better flight experience than BC in a floatplane.

  6. Some people walking around the paddock at Road America. When race cars are going to and from their pits to the track stay out of the way. You have to be aware what going on around you! This is not a school zone I just witnessed a father and son walk out in front of a race car and not be in a hurry to get out of the way. I've had it happen to me when driving the sidecar through the pits.

  7. Hey! I am 99% non-hippie and I fit right in. That is one of the many beauties of Salt Spring. It is an incredible art community and home to Robert Bateman, formerly a Burlington teacher as you know. This photo shows everything you need to know about Salt Spring.

  9. So..now you need a birdbath and a couple of feeders. I can't feed at my condo..but I enjoy watching them frolic in the water...at work...we even had a young hawk in the birdbath .

  10. Enroute to Vancouver from Saltspring island. Over more Gulf Islands. Food pic is at friends' back deck overlooking Cowichan Bay. Every day I saw little green-headed Anna's hummingbirds zipping around, goldfinch birds, blue herons, turkey vultures and bald eagles fly around. Of course we had to go to local winery to get some white wine for dinner. My friend was trying figure out how they could get her 94 yr. old mother (who uses a walker and sometimes needs to be in wheelchair), to the back deck because there are some stone steps down to the house and up from front door into living room before getting to back deck. All she wishes now is to simply sit there and bask for hrs. in the beautiful views.

  14. My uncle flew into Wisconson last night to attend some races at Road America. He and his son were walking through the pits when some rookie driver speeding through the pits almost hit them. Drivers have to be aware of what's going on around them. The track is out that way, not here in the pits. Sometimes it seems like a school zone for new drivers. I've had it happen to me when gearheads with too much ego try to do burnouts in the staging lanes. Just be careful out there.

  16. I’ve reset the clocks three times now. Twice before I went to bed and again this morning. The power must have been out overnight. I got a notice on my phone of flooding in Mercer. I asked my brother if he had floated away yet and he said he is in Meadville spending time with his son and grandkids. Someone posted a link of a Youngstown tv station on the scene in Poland, Ohio of flooded neighborhoods. My son should be ok, the circle he lives on has about a 20 foot elevation change and his house is near the top of the circle. It stormed all night, it’s just raining now. I can hear Skunk Run rushing. If I was younger I might try launching my kayak and see if I could make it all the way to Lake Latonka. Floodwaters are dangerous but they are also a lot of fun if you survive.

  18. Yes, the one where the windows are made. I have only been there once and left with more of a sterile Stepford feel than that of an American town. Maybe the Dutch just keep it super clean and tidy. It is worth a visit on Google Images if you ever need something to do. It is almost as stimulating as the Cafe as well.

  27. Here’s ours. He/she showed up several weeks ago when it was so tiny that it must have just left it’s mother. It hangs around all day munching on our lush clover. And he is not deterred by the rain this morning. This photo shows how tiny he really is.

  30. My BiL always carries lots of individually wrapped peppermint Life Savers in his pockets. He presents one to cashiers, waitresses, the guy in the auto parts store, etc. All the cashiers at Costco know him by his first name and he calls them "Miss" as in "Miss Pat," "Miss Joan," etc.
