Longjohn ★ Posted January 16, 2022 Share #3 Posted January 16, 2022 It was 10° last night and Oreo had been outside all day. When it got dark I looked for him and he was sound asleep on the porch swing. I left him sleep until I was ready to go to sleep and I went back out and closed the door pretty loud. He woke up and looked at me. I had to talk him into coming in. Furry animals are not as fragile as the ads on tv would have you believe.

My buddy had 3 Brittney's that lived in an out door kennel. We had a way below zero stretch and he was worried about them. Let them into the basement, they ran around smelling all the new stuff, then stood by the door waiting to go back home. Putting an indoor animal out in the cold is wrong, but out door critters are adjusted to the cold.
Popular Post maddmaxx ★ Posted January 16, 2022 Popular Post Share #5 Posted January 16, 2022 Earl is sleeping out there somewhere in the 0 deg weather. He won't come in. He still shows up a couple of times a day for a free meal. While he was stuffing his face yesterday I actually got to gently touch the top of his head after reaching out the barely open door. He was startled but didn't run away. I didn't press the issue any more than that. We are still finding some neutral ground to get along on. 3 2
Dirtyhip Posted January 16, 2022 Share #6 Posted January 16, 2022 Dogs are great. Had a good convo with our lovely Kay. I think I want to apply for a dog with that institute in a few years.
Popular Post sheep_herder ★ Posted January 16, 2022 Popular Post Share #7 Posted January 16, 2022 Smokey the cat lives in the barn, red building and the hay stack. He is happy to get his food in the barn, but expects a good loving before he will eat. 4

Thaddeus Kosciuszko Posted January 16, 2022 Share #9 Posted January 16, 2022 I'm going to suggest that if you put one of these just inside the door you'd have no trouble getting them to come in:

Wilbur ★ Posted January 16, 2022 Share #11 Posted January 16, 2022 Our Bouvier's would lay out in the snow, slowly being covered as it fell. They looked like Bison. They would stay out for a few hours. 2

Popular Post team scooter Posted January 16, 2022 Popular Post Share #13 Posted January 16, 2022 Its 1 degree here and a bunny wandered into the poodle coral this morning. Now the doggies keep pitching fits to go out to make sure it hasn't returned. Then they wont come back in. When Buddy's itty feetz get too cold and he starts limping, I need to go out and herd him and Mag back into the house. 2 1 1

Ruby’s favourite thing is smushion the cushion, ie wrecking the tops of the backs of our couches.

When I take him home after a long walk, he wants to get inside and lie down in comfort so much that he's got his nose at the door and I have drag the 100 lbs of him back far enough to open the storm door. He obviously doesn't grasp the concept of the storm door opening out while the entry door opens in.
Wilbur ★ Posted January 17, 2022 Share #17 Posted January 17, 2022 Our chihuahua's have no issues coming in the house. 30 cm of snow with 10 cm pecker clearance is a good motivator. 1
Longjohn ★ Posted January 17, 2022 Share #18 Posted January 17, 2022 Oreo went over to the glass doors this morning telling me he wanted out. I told him he really didn’t want out and opened the door for him. He went halfway through the doorway and stopped and looked around. He backed back inside and said I was right. 2
