Finished The Ride

Recommended Posts

It's still terrible that the ride was left unfinished, but last night's event sounds like it was awesome.

The ride was great. We got to be led by Lance, escorted the entire way by three police cars (it was great not having to stop at ANY of the stop signs). The community support all along the route was off the charts and the support from first responders to close the roads was very much appreciated.

Sounds like all those cyclists were "making a difference". :)

I read that Lance was going to be there for the Tuesday night ride and it sounded like it would be a moving event.  I hope it helped bring some support to the people participating and it was nice to hear of all the community support as well.

Glad it went well. Beautiful.

This murder still fills me with rage.

Glad that you and all the other riders finished the ride and that there was such support.

Hopefully this tragedy will make at least one driver more cautious.  Still so senseless.

Agreed.  Since the tragedy I have noticed that drivers are giving me a lot more room.

Let's hope that the drivers keep that up and not backslide into previous bad habits.

Did anybody call Lance a shithead doper and ruin the day for everybody else?

No but my daughter road with me and she wanted to challenge him.  She was kidding.  I did let her know that after 28 miles she finished about 100 feet behind one of the greatest cyclist in history.  As for being a shithead, Lance sort'a addressed that in a piece he wrote after the ride in Men's Journal.

"I told them I know I’m not for everybody, but at this point in my life, I’m liberated and freed up to do whatever is meaningful for me. I’m not in Kalamazoo to woo favor, this was a gnarly event, something that touched me in a weird way, and so I thanked them for having me there."

I read the article and it brought tears to my eyes. Most people who are highly flawed, like Lance is, still have a part of them that is noble. His actions here were certainly noble.

Sounds like Lance is trying to redeem himself. :)  He's got a hell of a long way to go, but a journey of 1000 miles...
