Popular Post BuffJim Posted April 11, 2018 Popular Post Share #1 Posted April 11, 2018 I've been improving, and now feel like my lungs are at 60 or so percent. Feels like a small day by day improvement. Just finished a course of antiobiotics and am taking 10 mgs of Prednisone a day. My best lung function in past few years is probably 80-85% of a normal person, so I'm gradually heading in that direction. Just made an appointment with my Pulmonologist for next Friday. Got my lab results and one of the markers for pneumonia was off the charts positive. It says on the results that it is an antibody, and it doesn't tell if it is past or current infection, but my suspicion is current. So hopefully there's nothing seriously chronic like Pulmonary Fibrosis or Interstitial Pneumonitis, but we'll have to see. Already have asthma and COPD. Starting to take longer walks, don't feel ready for anything more strenuous at this point. 10

Further Posted April 11, 2018 Share #5 Posted April 11, 2018 Very happy to hear you're doing better. Don't push too hard, it would be a shame to set yourself back while trying to heal. Pullin for ya
Green Grass Posted April 11, 2018 Share #6 Posted April 11, 2018 Shouldn't you be moving to a better climate? Or won't that help?

Longjohn ★ Posted April 11, 2018 Share #11 Posted April 11, 2018 The one time that I had pneumonia my wife made me go to the doctor. I don’t believe in running to the doctor with every little sniffle. They did a chest X-ray and told me I had pneumonia. They gave me a course of antibiotics (I think it was ten pills) and I started feeling better almost immediately. I worked through it, I never take off work for being sick, just broken bones.

Sometimes asthmatics do well in warm dry climates like Arizona. This is the worst reaction to a respiratory infection I’ve ever had (3 months) and pretty intense. Popular Post BuffJim Posted April 20, 2018 Author Popular Post Share #19 Posted April 20, 2018 Had my Pulmonologist appointment today. He said it was a viral pneumonia. He said no one with Pulmonary Fibrosis makes the recovery I’ve made in the last few weeks. I’m not back to normal but getting better. He does want to do another Cat Scan next month because my lungs still don’t sound right. It’s a big relief knowing that a battle with a terminal disease isn’t my lot. For now anyways. I Appreciate you prayers and words of encouragement. 11

MickinMD ★ Posted April 21, 2018 Share #23 Posted April 21, 2018 I'm glad you're improving. The chest/sinus infections that whacked me hard in Dec.-Jan. led to February chest X-rays because I was so short of breath after doing easy things like carrying a 20 lb object 50 feet. Fortunately they were clear. Right now the problem has almost disappeared. I'm hoping it was a temporary thing, but I worry a little. In March I was walking a paved park trail and met a guy perhaps 5-10 years older than my 67 years who had a portable oxygen tank and was sitting on a bench at the side of the trail. He said he had begun feeling short of breath are year or so previously and his doctors found lots of scars in his lungs whose origin wasn't clear: he had never smoked, worked around asbestos, etc. He said it was apparently just bad luck. That scared me a little. He said he walked the entire 2.8 miles of the trail every nice day, stopping to rest at each bench, which occurred about every 1/4 mile. In that spirit, I'm trying to walk some hills, etc. before returning to cycling after my Apr. 26 root canal.
