Road Runner Posted October 26, 2019 Share #1 Posted October 26, 2019 The internet says a young, healthy person should be able to do it for at least 30 seconds. They also say that if you can't do it for at least 20 seconds at any age, you are in dire need of a medical exam to determine the cause of your suckage. I am doomed. Zealot Posted October 26, 2019 Share #2 Posted October 26, 2019 Honestly, as long as I choose to. Also, I can squat to the floor on one leg and stand back up without putting the other foot down. 3

Road Runner Posted October 26, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted October 26, 2019 I suspect that my problem is a result of my spinal stenosis. Either that, or a defective brian.

Why do you have to pick just one problem, I'm sure you have many. 3

Longjohn ★ Posted October 26, 2019 Share #9 Posted October 26, 2019 I can stand on one leg for an infinite length of time unless the person who’s leg I’m standing on doesn’t start moving around. 1

Use a chair to hang on to and practice standing on one foot..heck stand on both feet..feet together and close your eyes..you will sway..but you will improve! Look for a chair yoga class...and...have that surgery....if you pick the right time...I would spend a week at your place helping you recover..but I think there are resources out there that can help with that. 1
KrAzY Posted October 26, 2019 Share #12 Posted October 26, 2019 I can stand on one leg until I fall over. It really all depends on how much I have had to drink 1

OK, I took it seriously. 2:56 on the right, 2:25 on the left. Could have gone longer but it started to ache.

2Far ★ Posted October 26, 2019 Share #15 Posted October 26, 2019 So, do I have to do it with my knee to the front or heel to the back?

2Far ★ Posted October 27, 2019 Share #17 Posted October 27, 2019 1 minute (let it down), each leg, knee up (just above the countertop), bare footed. It was harder.

MickinMD ★ Posted October 27, 2019 Share #20 Posted October 27, 2019 When I coached track and cross country, we used to stretch when warming up and did one called a "Superman Stretch." I found the one below with a Google image search, but the one we did grabbed and held the ankle that's in the air with the hand reaching back, to add a quad stretch of the leg in the air while working on the balancing muscles of the other leg, and we held it for 15-30 seconds for each leg. When I resumed coaching in 1998 after some years off, I was out of shape and when I stretched with the kids, the teenagers would fall over laughing when I tried to balance myself on one leg for up to 30 seconds. After a while, I was ok doing the Superman Stretch. So if you can't stand on one leg for long, work on it for a while and worry only if you don't improve your one-leg balance.
