BR46 Posted December 28, 2021 Share #1 Posted December 28, 2021 I show up in Georgia and the boy is elbow deep into the motor. He was changing the oil and found a broken dog in the oil. So had to pull the motor and put a different set of transmission gears. 3

Bikeguy Posted December 28, 2021 Share #4 Posted December 28, 2021 It was a good thing that the dog pooped out before the race. Even better... there was a spare part.

The transmission that he put in is not gear ratio that he wants for the big track but it's better than not racing at all.

I got a brand new race bike stuck in a tree the first day I had it one time. Was trying a hill that nobody had been successful climbing. I wanted to see how the new bike would do. It looped over when I was almost to the top and bounced on the way back down and landed in a tree. I had a heck of a time getting it out of the tree. 1

That is a scary feeling when the front of a bike looses its grip on earth going up a hill! I almost flipped playing on my brother's mountain bike going up a very steep hill. And by almost flipped I mean the front wheel came a few inches off the ground.

Used in high speed gear boxes where precise shifts are needed.

maddmaxx ★ Posted December 28, 2021 Share #22 Posted December 28, 2021 It's possible that the term is a holdover from an old nautical expression "to dog a hatch" The clamps that press the hatch against the seal resemble dog's heads to some small degree I suppose but it's only my guess why they are called dogs.

Of course it was probably impossible to recover from the initial shock.

I think the clutch is on the motor side of the trans, so it wouldn't help
