Mother's Day buffets.

I would much rather go to a restaurant than a buffet :nodhead: Last year on the MS150 we ended up at the casino buffet...the line was shorter than the wait for the sit down restaurant. But they are not cheap...and you are up and down getting your own food...All you can eat is fine if you eat that much...but...I would rather sit and be served.

More often than not, I grill for Mother's Day.

We've found that ball tip steaks are an incredibly economical yet good tasting cut, especially with my not-so-secret-yet-awesome marinade (McCormick Montreal Steak seasoning, olive oil, and soy sauce).

6-8 minutes around 450 turning once, then another 4-6 on indirect heat, with 8-10 minutes off the grill to rest, and you've got some pretty good beef.  My nieces thought it was amazing.

Germ phobic? I would say eminently practical, not phobic.

I've been at restaurants with buffet tables and seen a child take the salad dressing ladle, taste directly from it, and drop it back in the dressing dish - while the parent stood next to him and said nothing.  People going back for seconds and thirds with their dirty plates, scraping old food aside with the serving utensils to make room for new, and putting the utensils back in the food.  People struggling to break off a piece of pizza that's not fully cut apart, then using their hands to separate the two pieces, and leaving one piece behind with their fingerprints (and who knows what else) in the crust.

No, Airehead, I don't think you have an unreasonable concern about germs on the buffet table at all.  As for me, no thank you to the self-serve buffet.

We went to Red Lobster.  We thought we would have a long wait, the entrance was jammed with about twenty people waiting to be seated. They asked us how many and we said three. They said follow me and took us right to a booth. Our waitress tried to baptize me with my Sam Adams.  It got all over the table and the floor but missed me. I forgot to put my bank card back in my wallet and had to go back for it after stopping to buy a mother's day cake for our daughter in law and seeing it was missing.

I know that on Fathers Day we will be eating on the dock of a burger place down on the shore.

I'm thinking of hanging around for Father's Day this year.  I am usually riding my bike somewhere in Ohio on GOBA on Father's Day.  My shoulder is still giving me some pain and a seven day ride around Ohio might not be good therapy. I wonder if I get treated special hanging around for Father's Day instead of taking off on an adventure?

For any such occasion (Mother's Day, Valentine's, birthday) I cook a big meal for my wife, something she really likes.  I made chicken marsala and roasted broccoli, and my daughter made risotto.  Typically we would rather be home for occasions like this (avoidance of crowds is part of the reason).

My wife really didn't want to go out anywhere but my future SIL wanted to take his mom out and his mom thought it would be cool if we all went.... So we went to this breakfast place we like and it was a 2 hour wait... I went ahead and put my name in, got a pager thing and we ran some errands.  I got back about 1 hour 15 minutes later and the girl says, we called your name 20 minutes ago, you missed your call up so we'll have to put you on the bottom of the list.  I said hold on, you told me 2 hours, not 50 minutes so I left and came back.  If it was going to be 50 minutes I wouldn't have left...  Never mind, I'm not waiting another 2 hours here's your pager back.  The young lady says, OK hold on and says give me 10 minutes, we have a table clearing...

All in all it worked out but dayum it was freaking crowded...

I'm actually relieved MIL no longer feels like going out. It was alway buffet at a 2nd rate former Bonanza steakhouse.

WoW wanted to go to a wine and jazz festival Saturday night so she just asked that we grill burgers yesterday.

Fathers Day, I plan to do a duathlon in the Omaha area. If we hurry, we can get a late brunch in the Old Market just before the College World Series crowd comes out.

I am not a buffet fan - I'm not a crowd fan! There are never  enough options for me!

My daughter and her bf took me to one of my favourite restaurants - @Randomguy Has been there - The Gunk Hause.  Beautiful views, peaceful and great food and beer!

I always heard good stuff about The Gunks.  We always went south to Seneca Rocks for out of the area climbing though.

Ate at a buffet Sunday afternoon on the way to Bozeman.  I am still alive and maybe well.  Actually we eat at Golden Corral fairly often.  They have a pretty good deal for the elderly.  As they say, a penny saved is a penny earned.

My wife thinks it's funny when we go to the Golden Trough Corral I pig out on the vegetables. I have never been a big meat eater and I stay away from fried food but they have a good selection of veggies that are not fried.

Not only that but you usually get your choice because at least half of the rest of the crowd won't touch the veggies.

Does this happen with your families:

Mothers day = No chores, pampered, brunch at restaurant...

Fathers Day = "Let's BBQ!!!" Dad brakes out grill, cooks meat, everyone eats while dad cleans up grill, mess & self and then dad gets to enjoy bbq he did all the work for...

I haven't been around on Fathers Day so we will see how it goes this year.
