JerrySTL ★ Posted March 9, 2022 Share #2 Posted March 9, 2022 I had a job offer to go there a few days ago. I said no. I'd spent enough time in nearby New Mexico plus I like retirement.

MoseySusan Posted March 9, 2022 Share #4 Posted March 9, 2022 Flagstaff was ok. I went to college for three years there at NAU. We used to visit Phoenix a couple of times a year, usually in the Fall and at Easter. Maybe with COVID restrictions waning, we’ll visit more regularly. I didn't know there was a time limit on visiting AZ. I feel that Las Vegas has a three-day lifespan, too. Fun for the first couple of days, then you are ready to leave. Page Turner Posted March 9, 2022 Share #8 Posted March 9, 2022 ...the desert mountain ranges right up out of Tucson are very nice. You can more or less follow the mountains all the way down to Nogales, on the Mexican border. I once drove the Mexico/Arizona border (as close as I could follow by road), from Douglas to Nogales There are some places where it is very adventurous. I would probably be reluctant to do so now, because it's a smuggling corridor, and there are a lot more people getting killed in that area now. I think Organ Pipe National Monument is still pretty safe. But at the time, parts of it up out of Nogales seemed idyllic.

This year might be better because there's no Spring Training. We like spending time with our family, but I can tell they want to get back to their routines after a few days. Just ask @Parr8hed.

I can't wait to go back. It is absolutely beautiful country. But this is someone who is coming from nothing but corn and cows. Sedona was amazing. The scenery and hiking were dope. Bob took us around the Grand Canyon. My daughter threw a drop ball (snowball) into the Grand Canyon. We hiked up one of the most strenuous hikes I have ever done right outside of Phoenix at piestewa peak. We rented a Jeep with a front tire that leaked air. Don't rent that one. It was a PITA. People there were somewhat nice. They seemed healthy. The bitched about how cold it was ( we had the top down on the jeep wearing sweatshirts). It was like 50-60 deg. I didn't care much for Phoenix but everything was super dope once you got away from there.

Razors Edge ★ Posted March 10, 2022 Share #15 Posted March 10, 2022 I really enjoyed Petrified Forest NP. Neat stuff. Likewise, driving into Flagstaff from the east was cool. And, we know Prescott is epic (but I've never been there).

ChrisL Posted March 10, 2022 Share #17 Posted March 10, 2022 We would go there for Spring Training and we liked it in March. I was there in August for a tournament my son played in and it was freaking hot but I deal with 115 dry heat better than 98 humid heat. I actually need to go to Scottsdale at some point soon. Popular Post BuffJim Posted March 10, 2022 Popular Post Share #18 Posted March 10, 2022 I was mansplaining to BuffCarla yesterday what next year’s vacation would be, and she said. No, I want to go to the Grand Canyon. So Arizona and New Mexico are next year’s vacation. 3 2
Popular Post groupw Posted March 11, 2022 Popular Post Share #19 Posted March 11, 2022 I have to admit, I have had the blinders on a good portion of this first 6 weeks getting the house unpacked and set up. Now, aside from waiting for some shelving units that are back-ordered, we are going to take advantage of the spring weather now that it is getting really nice! There are various outside events going on this weekend and a great weather forecast so we are going to check some things out. Definitely Miata weather! I have loved being able to go cycling without a ton of cold gear! I’ve only wore leggings once; a jacket a couple times. Hoping to actually meet some of the cyclists as the weather becomes warmer. WoW has been able to meet several local women through a FB group. They go out at least once/month. She said they focus on having positive people in the group. My social time so far has been a couple outings with coworkers and introducing myself and visiting with some of the neighbors. I turn 60 in 3 weeks so planning to have some people over for some pulled pork and burgers….and beer. Commuting has been an adjustment! I went from a 3 mile commute to a 30 mile. Much more traffic! Half of it is through the desert heading north out of town. I don’t mind that part of the drive if drivers aren’t too stupid. I’ve have also figured out where to look for the wild horses. They generally hang out in a dry river wash. I try to give myself a little space so I can try to get a glance of them. Luckily I can work from home 2 days/week. The days I’m in the office, I generally leave a little early to get a jump on the traffic. As long as my production numbers stay good, it won’t be an issue. I miss my friends. I knew I would. I miss randomly running into people while out and about. That isn’t happening here, yet. For all its faults, social media has helped stay in touch. The pandemic made in person socializing a challenge even after things opened up. That made the decision to move easier. I can’t wait to get a little more established, but so far, I’m glad we moved! Now that things are setting, I can’t wait to meet @UglyBob and @az_cyclist.

BuffJim Posted March 11, 2022 Share #21 Posted March 11, 2022 Probably March or April next year. Would do a loop from Phoenix into NM, hit Santa Fe, then Grand Canyon, Sedona and back to Phoenix.
