Popular Post Airehead Posted September 8, 2016 Popular Post Share #10 Posted September 8, 2016 Rain is a wow factor in a great adventure. BACK in 2006 when I did my novice multi-day ride called Rolling for Rescue to benefit Airedale Rescue we had rain and more rain and floods. I sent many updates to the webmaster. She posted. We got lots of sympathy. Donations. It is a fun read even now and raised over 4,000 dollars for senior Airedales in need. Here I was in all my novice finest. Came home and bought a real bike.

Popular Post Zealot Posted September 8, 2016 Popular Post Share #15 Posted September 8, 2016 I take almost no photos. Sorry. Riding in a t-storm is a blast! Breaking camp in the rain, not so much. But everyone is doing well. Me, Mrs Z and Digital took a walk through the Paw Paw tunnel last night after dark. Was a first for me. Been through that tunnel many times , never at night. Saw a timber rattler on the east end as we started back . Just a small one. It was gorgeous! Saw a good sized black snake today. It didn't leave the trail until I walked over to it to get a better look. Mosquitos are fierce tonight. And it's a typical sultry late summer night here in the mid Atlantic. Crickets, katydids, frogs and even a barred owl are serenading us here. (And some trains ind the distance ordered up for @petitepedal). Sleep well Forumites!

Dottleshead ★ Posted September 9, 2016 Share #23 Posted September 9, 2016 From Petite's FB page: Quote What was lost is found. I am back with the group...well sort of..I had a shower and I am sleeping on a couch tonight.Long story short...the heat and humidity ate up more than I fueled for..and about 5 miles from the end..I just could go no further..I was okay water wise...but the gels and energy bars were not fixing things. Also version has little or no cell coverage in the area...my phone started getting hot and draining..and unfortunately I did not have the phone number for the person meeting us today with a car. I was waiting..and burned about missing the battlefield tour..when two ladies just wanted to help..they offered to take me(not my bike) to the meet up spot..or heck take me to the battlefield. I said someone should be by soon..but they asked a guy with a truck leaving the boat landing to take me & my bike to the meet up spot about 5 miles away...so Dick and his dog Mandy (a very wet black lab) raced across Sharpsburg with me holding on for dear life..in the mean time..the rescuers got to where I had been waiting. I ended up at a little bar in Sharpsburg..and even ran into other cyclist who knew people were looking for me. What a mess...but I am back with the others..only 2 more days of riding left...It has been fun and it has been a learning experience. I will have to come east with a car to see all the places we are riding by.

Popular Post Longjohn ★ Posted September 11, 2016 Popular Post Share #39 Posted September 11, 2016 I had trouble with my fancy Dynamo phone charger once we hit the sandy trail and it wouldn't charge my phone. I think the grit on the trail must have got inside it. I couldn't find any trees with electrical outlets. I was saving my battery for Strava, photos , and emergencies . I'm guessing if Amtrak has plug ins this thread will get flooded with photos on the ride back tomorrow.

I have enjoyed being away from these little critters after we moved north. No, we do not have them in Montana. We also had sand fleas in Texas, and they were plentiful on some of our research sites.
