Popular Post Kirby Posted April 13, 2020 Author Popular Post Share #2 Posted April 13, 2020 This is up in Lake Placid. I took my parents for a long weekend up there and they loved it. Years later my Mom would tell me how she would sometimes still imagine sitting out by the lake and just watching the clouds roll over and how it would bring her calm. That's one of the few places I'll actually get up early enough to see the sunrise (at least on some days) 7 1

Popular Post bikeman564™ Posted April 13, 2020 Popular Post Share #8 Posted April 13, 2020 Mackinac Island. Yes its a tourist trap w/ a lot of fudgies walking aboot. But the place is huge at 8 miles around. And most of the people are downtown where all the business are at which is aboot a mile long. I enjoy riding on it. I also got to explore the internals of the island very well and biked on roads I never have before which was so much fun. The perimeter road M185 is flat, but the inside is all hills. Mornings are best because boat loads of peeps aren't unloaded yet Night riding around it is fun also. There's strava segments too Great bars/restaurants for food and good times. BCC has never been and would like to, and I keep trying to entice her to go. Hoping next year Sure would be a sweet place to have a vacation home. There's plenty of spots along the road to relax and take it all in and relax. This is my favorite spot, Fort Holmes (one of two forts). At the highest point on the island and built by the British, it was a good spot to kick some ass in the war of 1812. Also a nice two mile climb. 4

Popular Post Zephyr Posted April 13, 2020 Popular Post Share #19 Posted April 13, 2020 The family cottage in New Brunswick. It is now owned by my sister and her husband when Mom and Dad were too old for the upkeep but it is still the family gathering place. Of the other 10 cottages there, 7 of them are relatives or family friends. It is where I spent my summers growing up with my cousins as my friends and where my kids met and built relationships with their cousins, and their second cousins. It is the first place I ever did a SCUBA dive when an older cousin brought gear when I was 9 or 10. It is my happy place. 5

Popular Post maddmaxx ★ Posted April 13, 2020 Popular Post Share #23 Posted April 13, 2020 If there was a place I'd like to go to more often it would be the Tides Motel Falmouth MA. It's sort of a fleabag with great location. We go there park the car and don't move it for a week or more. Everything is done on a bike. The beach is at your back door step, the harbor is on the front door side. It is from where that boat is tied up that my ash scattering trip will begin.

It would be cool if we knew someone rich enough to rent the whole place for SW Forum for a weeks gathering. The Cape is reasonably flat and bikes can be taken anywhere for rides not involving the major through roads like 28 or 6. Beaches, Ferry boats to Martha's Vinyard for more bike riding, Pub crawling by bike, more beaches, lots of restaurants from shacks with picnic tables to 3 star cusine.

Actually you'd have to book almost a year in advance. I call it a fleabag because it's commonly hit in the face by the ocean in winter storms. Consequently it's a cinderblock and concrete building inside and out with indoor/outdoor carpet in the rooms and relatively inexpensive appliances and furniture. It's a super place based on location however and it actually commands more pre room than the place further inland that I used to own a small piece of. A room can go for a hundred and a half a night in the summer, while my place when bankrupt. As the realty people say, location location location.
