maddmaxx ★ Posted February 19, 2018 Share #1 Posted February 19, 2018 Who said getting old was for the brave? I've just returned from the ER, a ct scan and various poking and prodding. Yes, I took a fall this morning walking down my driveway on this tiny piece of clear ice from a melt refreeze. I made a perfect three point landing, heels, ass and head. Nobody knew I had gone down so I lay there for a while dizzy, nauseous and stunned. I stayed dizzy even after getting back to the house so I had womaxx drive me to the ER. It was the worst hit I've ever taken. The doc says I may have black eyes later this week even though the hit was on the back of my head. The ct scan shows nothing new wrong with my head...............But.................it shows a lump in my throat just too far down for the ER doc to see. Now I have to go see a specialist for what might be nothing or something or nothing. I'm still on this side of the turf though. My advice, don't get old. 1 1 1

KrAzY Posted February 20, 2018 Share #17 Posted February 20, 2018 I took a spill the other day. I was doing about 45mph and a friend of mine lost the ass end of his motorcycle into the rear tire of mine.. I tried to slow down, but the wobble was too overwhelming and I fly like superman. I ended up with a sprained ankle, pretty road rash on right leg, beautiful bruised sternum, possible dislocated patella, sprained right wrist, bloody nose, and possible fractured left hand thumb. I shook that shit off for the last few days and am feeling a lot better.. I am damn lucky to have been in the medical field at one time. I knew I would get better, and didn't need a Dr telling me "what" that wanted to do for me. 1

It seems like we're a tag team and now you're up! I, 67, fell on the ice on Jan. 4 and yesterday and today, Feb. 18-19, were the first days since then I haven't been limping when I walk, though there's still a little pain. I'm wearing a doctor-fitted ankle brace. I suffered a Grade 2 sprain of the left anterior talofibular ligament by severely rolling my foot while forcing myself to fall into a sitting position so I wouldn't spill the Diet Coke I was bringing home from McD's! My podiatrist took 3 X-rays, examined the foot, and pronounced, "You're ok!" He said I should be healed by Feb. 12, but he was at least a week off. I see him on Feb. 26 and hopefully will be healed by then. Yeah. The older we get the longer it takes to recover from these things and the more stuff they find! I was in ER for dislocated shoulder. Lady didn't see me, pulled out, I t-boned her, landed on my shoulder. It was my only injury from that incident. No lecture from anyone... probably cuz someone down the hall was trying to die. They had bigger concerns that evening.

I had a mild panic moment this morning when I couldn't gain my balance after sitting up in bed. The ER doctor did not discuss "vertigo" or how long it might last. It's doubtful that I can drive for a few days till this lessens. Rapid head motions result in immediate vertigo and then nausea. Things seem a bit better now that I've been up a while. I'm told by eldest son that the symptoms will be the worst for 24 to 48 hours.

I was warned heavily by 2 doctors.....my doctor and my sister-doctor who is emergency medicine physician and has dealt with concussed patients. The brain needs to heal. I was like you....I was dizzy just from walking around at home. No, driving is not allowed. I was knocked unconscious for several hrs. by another cyclist and was hospitalized overnight. The blue light from computers keeps your brain alert and doesn't help healing. It was several wks. before I could walk with someone. YOu have to be accompanied by someone. I was monitored by my doctor every...2 wks. Honest, I would see the doctor again...but I realize maybe your health care insurance might make it more difficult??
